Matt Oglesby is a 2013 graduate of Savannah State University, where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering and was a member of the baseball program from 2008–2012. He began his coaching career at Savannah State University as an assistant baseball coach in 2013.

Since graduating, Oglesby has coached athletes ranging from five years old through the collegiate level and has been a member of the SCPS baseball coaching staff since 2015. He became the Head Baseball Coach in 2020. Oglesby joined the SCPS softball coaching staff in 2017 and was named Head Softball Coach in 2018.

Matt and his wife, Mary Allison Oglesby, have been married since 2013. Mary Allison is a 2008 graduate of SCPS and is currently a 9th grade English teacher. Together, they have three children: Rawlings Addison, Palmer Ellison, and Cannon Thomas.
