Raider Returns: Lexi Polychrones ’21 Joins SCPS as Educator and Coach

Raider Lexi Polychrones ’21 is coming back to Savannah Christian to begin her career in Education.  The ’21 SCPS graduate will begin as a Pre-K Assistant.  She will be coaching middle school volleyball and varsity tennis for the Raiders.  Lexi has an undergraduate degree from Mercer University and is working on her Master’s in Teaching at Liberty University.  Recently, Sports Director Ken Griner had a chance to speak with Lexi about coming back to SCPS.

KG:  What drew you back to Savannah Christian?

LP:  Besides Savannah Christian being my alma mater, several factors drew me back. The opportunity to apply as a Pre-K teaching assistant in the lower school. Another factor that drew me back was the opportunity to coach volleyball and tennis.

KG:  You already have a Bachelor's degree in Public Health from Mercer.  Now you're going after your Master's in Teaching from Liberty University.  Where did you learn the value of education?

LP:  Some of my favorite experiences came from elementary school. I knew I wanted to take my experiences from when I was younger to hopefully influence and positively affect young students. Education, especially for young kids, is so important in students' lives because it shapes them into who they will become in the future.

KG:  You start at SCPS this year as a Teaching Assistant in Pre-K.  What is it about that level that appeals to you?

LP:  I absolutely LOVE kids. I have always had a special place in my heart for young children. I love seeing how their faces light up when they get excited or when they have something they want to share with me. I could not be more excited for the Fall!!

KG:  You'll be coaching as well.  After playing four years of beach volleyball at Mercer University, then another year at Georgia College playing indoor volleyball, what is it that you learned through athletics that you hope to pass along to students?

LP:  I learned many things through athletics that I hope to pass along to students: Never Give Up, Embrace the Opportunities, and Do Not Take Anything for Granted. There are going to be times in life or in athletics that are going to be hard and that are going to challenge you.
