Lower School (PK-5)

The Learning Support Program at Savannah Christian’s Lower School is designed to help students grow academically while honoring their God-given strengths and individual learning needs.
The program provides targeted support for students who benefit from additional instruction in reading and math, as well as classroom-based assistance. Students receive small-group instruction in reading using the Orton-Gillingham approach, a structured, multisensory method that supports phonics, decoding, spelling, and reading fluency. Math instruction is also provided in small groups to reinforce foundational skills, build confidence, and support classroom learning.

In fourth and fifth grades, learning support teachers push into general education classrooms, collaborating with classroom teachers to provide individualized assistance, reinforce instruction, and help students apply strategies in real-time.
The Learning Support Program also assists in implementing appropriate accommodations, such as extended time, quiet testing, and organizational supports, to help students access the curriculum and demonstrate their learning effectively.
