Head Coach: Deedee Colter
Coach Deedee Colter is in her 19th season at SCPS and her 18th year as head coach of the Varsity and JV Cross Country and Track & Field programs for both the Raider Girls and Raider Boys. Alongside assistant coaches Amanda Ringham and Emily Glick, Coach Colter has led the SCPS Varsity Girls and Boys Cross Country teams to qualify for the GHSA State Championships in all 19 years of her tenure. Under her leadership, the Varsity Girls Cross Country team has captured eight Area/Region Championships and finished in the GHSA State Championships top 10 nearly every year. The Varsity Boys Cross Country team has earned 10 Area/Region Championships and has also consistently placed in the state top 10.
Coach Colter also serves as Head Coach of the SCPS Varsity and JV Boys and Girls Track & Field programs. She is supported by an accomplished staff of former D1 athletes including Emily Glick (Sprints & Field; Distance), Tommy Marks (Sprints, Hurdles, Pole Vault), Dale Colter and Kasey Amick (High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump), and MaryLynn Zeller (Throws). During her tenure, the Varsity Girls Track & Field team has produced 14 Individual GHSA State Champions, matched by 14 Individual State Champions on the Varsity Boys side. SCPS Track Field teams consistently qualify for the State Championships and have earned numerous podium finishes, including multiple placements from second through eighth at the GHSA State Track & Field Championships over the past 19 years.
A former All-SEC cross country and track athlete, Coach Colter was a four-year letter winner at Auburn University before returning to Auburn to coach the women’s distance teams in cross country and track. She has been named Savannah Morning News Cross Country Coach of the Year and Track & Field Coach of the Year multiple times for both boys’ and girls’ programs. In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Coach Colter is the SCPS Upper School Technology Instructor and Grade Chair. She has also played a key role in establishing and growing the SCPS Middle School cross country and track programs.
Coach Colter and her husband, Dale, have two children, both SCPS alumni: Ty, a graduate of SCAD with a degree in Graphic Design, and Jenn, a graduate of the University of South Carolina and member of the 2017 and 2018 SEC Champion Gamecocks Women’s Soccer teams.
