DEAR SCPS STUDENT:

 

We hope you are returning to SCPS.  If you are planning to return, there are some facts you need to know:

 

STUDENTS WHO ARE RE-ENROLLED WILL RECEIVE PRIORITY IN SCHEDULING!

 

In grades 9-12, if you fail an English course or a math course, you MUST attend summer school.  If you fail more than one subject, you MUST attend summer school.  If you fail one subject, we strongly recommend you attend summer school.  You must attend an accredited summer school program in order to receive credit.  You MUST take what is written on the summer school form.  NO SUBSTITUTIONS ARE ALLOWED.  If you have questions, please contact the office before you register.

 

YOU MUST HAVE 5 UNITS TO ENTER THE 10TH GRADE.

 

YOU MUST HAVE 11 UNITS TO ENTER THE 11TH GRADE.

 

YOU MUST HAVE 17 UNITS TO ENTER THE 12TH GRADE.

 

ATHLETIC ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:  You must have passed 5 courses the previous semester and currently be enrolled in 5 classes.   The only courses that may be repeated for credit are band, chorus, drama, and physical education courses.

 

SPECIAL NOTE:  In order to graduate you must meet the following requirements:

 

ENGLISH                                             4 UNITS

 

SOCIAL STUDIES                              3 UNITS (World History, U.S. History, Economics and American Government)

 

MATHEMATICS                                4 UNITS (Alg. I taken in the 8th grade does not count as one of the

                                                                                22 units required for graduation unless your school gave

                                                                                you a carnegie unit for it.  The credit must be written on your transcript.)

 

BIBLE                                                   1 UNIT

 

FOREIGN LANGUAGE                     2 UNITS (Same language)

 

SCIENCE                                              3 UNITS (Conceptual Physics, Chemistry, and Biology)

 

PE/HEALTH                                        1 UNIT (Band cannot be substituted for your year of physical  education.)

 

ELECTIVES                                         4 UNITS

 

 

TOTAL                                                 22 UNITS

 

 

 

**Our math classes begin with Algebra I.  If you are a weak math student, it is recommended that you start a tutorial program this summer to strengthen your skills and continue the program throughout high school, as needed.
