The Beta Club
The Beta Club is an honor club which emphasizes achievement, character, and leadership, and whose membership is by invitation only. Second semester sophomores, all juniors, and first semester seniors are eligible for membership. For a student to be eligible for membership, he must maintain an average of 88 in all classes, except in advanced classes where a 91 average is required and in advanced placement classes where an 85 average is required. Each perspective member must receive outstanding recommendations from all teachers, both present and past. Members pay a one-time fee of thirteen dollars, all of which is sent to Beta Club headquarters in Spartanburg, SC, and yearly dues of one dollar, which the club keeps. Once a member, each student must maintain the required grades, cannot receive any bad conduct marks, and must attend the monthly meetings. On the third unexcused absence of a monthly meeting, the member is dropped from the roll.
Duties include participation in monthly pizza club sales and the Beta Club store.
Pennies for Patients is an annual fund raiser for the Beta Club. Homerooms are encouraged by Beta members to bring in money for cancer patients. This year the drive is held January 12-31, 2004 and our goal is to match or exceed last year's collection of $2500.00.
