Mr. Sullivan teaches at the Middle School and High school. He teaches Honors Algebra at the Middle School. He teaches Geometry and Algebra I at the High School.

Algebra I (offered to eighth grade students ) builds on the strengths of previous course of offerings, The course offers complete algebraic coverage, clear development of mathematical concepts and reasoning skills. Suggestions for appropriate use of technology are included in the course and Geometric models are used to illustrate abstract algebraic concepts. Problem solving is introduced early and is integrated throughout the course event.

Policies and Procedures

Required Class Materials: -- three ring notebook or folder with prongs for removal and insertion of paper (no spiral note books), paper, pencil and pen (any color other than red), textbook with book cover, TI-82 or TI-83 calculator, (non-programmable calculator may be used).

--All materials are to be brought to class everyday unless otherwise instructed. No borrowing! Come prepared!

Grading: The student’s grade is obtained from a combination of test, quiz, and participation grades.

Tests: -All test grades are averaged together and count for 60% of the nine weeks grade. Tests will be given 3-4 times per quarter (typically every other Friday).

-If a student is absent the day before a test, he/she will take the test with the class unless the student has been absent for an extended period of time. This is due to the fact that the day before a test is a review day.

-If a student is absent the day of the test, he should plan to make-up the test the day he returns unless the student has been absent for an extended period of time.

-Any student absent for extended periods of time should see me the day he/she returns to set up tutoring and a make-up test date.

Quizzes:- Unannounced quizzes should be expected any class period. Homework will be recorded as a quiz grade. Quizzes, homework and class work will be grouped together to make 40% of the nine weeks grade.

Homework: -In mathematics, homework is a mandatory for learning. For that reason, homework assignments are carefully chosen and must be completed before class daily. Expect homework to be given almost every night, including weekends.

Tutoring: -I am available for one-on-one tutoring Tuesday and Thursday from 12:40 - 1:00. at the High School and 8:00-8:20 at the Middle School. Students will sign up for tutoring the day prior to the session they wish to attend.

Detentions: Automatic detentions will be issued for the following infractions.

-Drinking in class (water included)

-Chewing gum in class

-Textbook or notebook not brought to class

-Defacing school property (including writing on desks)

Classroom attendance:

There will be none of the following during class: - -Going to lockers during class-Going to bathroom during class
-Going to speak with another teacher during class
-Looking over teacher’s shoulder in the roll book
-Watching the teacher grade another student’s paper
-Working on another subject without permission will be taken up and not returned.

Tutoring: Tuesday and Thursday 8:00 a.m.-8:20 a.m.
