Reading Club Competitions
~Course Content~
Language Arts is a synthesis of reading and writing. Our focus in sixth grade is on the student as a reader, and students are encouraged to read as widely as possible. Individuals are required at least one book of choice each quarter. Reading tasks will encourage students to develop skills of research, comprehension, empathy, and inference.
Writing tasks are designed to nurture expression, creativity, exposition, comparison, and personal evaluation. To complete these activities, we complete research on the internet. We also follow the Sadlier-Oxford Vocabulary Workshop. We begin each unit in class, and many of the activities will be set as homework, in preparation for the unit test.
