Hickey Receives Scholarships to Mercer University
Champion scholar athlete wins Golf and Presidential honors

(5/1/08) Brittany Nicole Hickey, daughter of Howard and Annette Hickey, signed a letter of intent on Thursday, May 1st to play Division I collegiate golf at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. Friends, family and students gathered in the Weeks’ Upper School Media Center at Savannah Christian Preparatory School, as Brittany signed her future on the dotted line.

Mercer University has not only given Miss Hickey an athletic scholarship, but she will also receive the prestigious Presidential Scholarship based on her academic excellence to cover her college expenses for the next four years. Brittany was awarded a $32,250 academic scholarship for each year she attends and $20,000 for golf, for a grand total of $149,000 in scholarship funds.

While attending Savannah Christian, this four year letterman received many golf awards including Most Valuable Player, Coach’s Award, City Low Medalist, Region Low Medalist, and Savannah Area’s Player of the Year. She is a member of three region championship teams, three city championship teams, a state runner-up team, and the first Girl’s State Championship team in Savannah Christian's history.

Brittany is also a very competitive player outside of the school season. She has participated in Savannah Junior Golf for the past 4 years, and she is an active member of the First Tee of Savannah program. Brittany is no stranger to trophies winning 1st place in three GSGA State sectional qualifying tournaments, 4th place in GSGA state wide competition, and top three in all Georgia Junior Golf Tour Competitions.

Brittany is also an academically motivated AP Student who is in the top ten of her graduating class. Brittany plans on majoring in Biomedical Engineering at Mercer University.

Brittany was also heavily recruited by other schools including, Berry College, Armstrong Atlantic University, Oglethorpe University, Alabama University, and SCAD.
