Megan Thompson, a senior forward and midfielder for the Lady Raider Soccer Team, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play soccer for Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC). Her family, friends, and even the ABAC Soccer Head Coach, Jim Ballenger came out to the Weeks’ Media Center to watch Megan commit to a her start as a collegiate level student athlete.
Megan is eager to play for ABAC and comments, “I’m excited to go to ABAC, because this is going to be fun soccer!” As a freshman Megan earned her first varsity letter as a midfielder and forward. In 2006 Megan’s play improved as she finished the season as the top goal scorer with 15 goals and 6 assists and was voted Offensive Player of the Year for SCPS.
In 2007, Megan again led the team in scoring with 8 goals and 5 assists and was again voted Offensive Player of the Year. Megan was named one of the forward/midfielders to the Area 3 All-Area Girls Soccer Team for the 2007 season.
Coach Davis reflects on the past seasons and says, “Megan is a player that fills many different roles on the soccer team. Not only is Megan Thompson a team leader, she varsity lettered for the team all four of her years in high school and has played a considerate amount of time at defensive positions as well as forward and midfield.”
Megan has her sights set on majoring in nutrition and psychology at the University of Georgia, and plans on applying her core courses at ABAC on that track. “I think going to a junior college is the right idea for me,” she says, “and with its location I will easily be able to balance out my schedule to excel in my studies as well.”
At the signing, Megan was accompanied by her parents, Michele and Mike Thompson of Savannah, Georgia, as well as her younger sister, Gracie, and grandparents, Jim and Peggy Bulluck.
