SCPS Senior James Lindley III is truly a winning student athlete. Maintaining a 3.5 GPA while taking AP and Honors courses, he has also won numerous awards for his football prowess. Because of his athletic skills and academic achievement, the University of Georgia has offered Jamie a “preferred” walk-on position as a kicker for the bulldogs.
“They have an awesome football team,” says Jamie. “But, they also have great academics and a great college atmosphere; I’ve always wanted to go there since I was a kid.”
Today, in the Weeks’ Media Center, Jamie signed a National Letter of Intent to play for UGA, and his proud parents, James Lindley Jr., and Terri Wease, were there to watch with the rest of the Raider family.
As the GACA AA All-State Kicker for the pre-season and regular season games, Jamie gained recognition on the Pre-Season AA All-Academic Team as a senior, and All-Region Academic Team his sophomore, junior, and senior years. His athletic ability has placed him as the leading South Kicker for the 2007 GACA North/South All Star Classic, and 1st Team All-Region Kicker/Punter since his sophomore year in high school. As a freshman, Jamie was won the long field goal contest at the Ray Guy Camp in Summerville, South Carolina with a 60-yard kick. Maturing in his age and ability, he was named the Kicker/Punter to the 1st Team All-Greater Savannah Classic his junior year of high school.
As a leader at Savannah Christian, Lindley plays many positions, kicker/punter, split-end, and defensive back. Although he hasn’t officially broken any SCPS records, Jamie is sure he’s come close.
“Officially, I don’t know, but I bet I have set the record for the number of on-side kicks attempted and recovered in a game/season,” says Jamie.
Even Coach Carter agrees, and says in the 25 years he’s been at Savannah Christian, Jamie is the best kicker he’s ever seen. On the field, Lindley’s achievements stretch far and wide on the Raiders’ team. Most people remember his 47-yard field goal early in the 2007 season against McIntosh County. Savannah Morning News called him, “An exception to the rule in the world of kickers.”
Some of his career personal bests are listed below:
- Field Goals (16/24)
- Extra Points (113/123)
- 65 yard field goal during a regular season practice
Although he’s committing to UGA to play football, Jamie has decided to pursue a degree in medicine. His preferred walk-on status gives him the opportunity to use his HOPE Scholarship for the first year, and a scholarship is likely as he matures into UGA’s football program.
