Jim Creasy ‘07 (on stage, right) plays guitar with a fellow member of “That 80’s Band” |
The single table-top book in the reception area of The Law Offices of Gillis & Creasy, LLC hints that someone in this Atlanta-area high rise tower is a guitar aficionado.
Within a few minutes, it is clear that that someone is attorney Jim Creasy ‘87.
Lawyer by day and musician by night, Jim is a guitarist in “That 80’s Band” – a high-energy, seven member party/cover band based in Atlanta, Georgia. Sending you on a time warp back to the days and sounds of the Reagan Era, the band plays favorite 80’s dance/party tunes that take you back to the time when we all Walked Like an Egyptian and knew whose number was 867-5309.
In addition to college, holiday, and special events – including Atlanta’s New Years Eve celebration – the band has played various venues across the southeast, including The Georgia Theater in Athens, Georgia, Atlanta’s famous Coca-Cola Roxy Theatre in Buckhead, the Mobile, Alabama Coliseum, and Mardi Gras.
Jim attended SCPS during 11th and 12th grade, and then graduated from the Citadel in 1991 and UGA Law School in 1994. Following a family career path that includes his grandfather and uncle, Jim worked in a Savannah law firm for a couple of years, then moved to Atlanta where he practiced with Drew, Eckl and Farnham, LLC. Jim opened his own practice in 2003, and co-founded Gillis & Creasy, LLC in 2007. The firm focuses on business and tort litigation as well as real estate transactions.
Jim is married to Angela Johnson Creasy ’89, and the couple has three children, James Stuart (8), Abigail Rose (5), and Caroline Jane (3). Angela attended SCPS from the 1st through the 12th grade, along with her two sisters, Diane Johnson Cook ’85 and Pamela Johnson Culberson ‘82. Diane is married to Bo Cook and lives in Springfield, Georgia with their two children. Pam lives in Savannah with her husband and two children where she works as an IT in the Computer and Information Services department at Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU), and where her husband Calvain works as Assistant Coach for the championship AASU Baseball Pirates.
Angela received her Associates Degree in Nursing from AASU, then a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Brenau College in Gainesville, Georgia. She worked in Savannah at Candler Hospital as a Registered Nurse for one year, and then worked for CareOne. After moving to Atlanta, she worked with IntraCorp Insurance where, she says in all earnestness, “I gained an appreciation for the other side of the health care industry.”
She also worked for Visiting Nurse Health Systems and at Northside Hospital as a Discharge Planner. “One of most fun things about that job,” she recalls, “was running across Atlanta-area SCPS alumni having their babies!”
Angela currently works as a Nurse Paralegal and Office Manager for Gillis & Creasy.
“I love the flexibility to be with our kids,” she says. “We are blessed with good and healthy kids. And, we have learned to balance family and career. At work we talk about work and at home we talk about home,” she explains. “We don’t mix the two.”
Angela also enjoys working with her husband. “I get along great with Jim; we make a great team.”
