Using both hands, a foot pedal, a gentle voice and a commanding attention to every detail in the surgery unit - from lights and people to surgical equipment and the vital signs of the patient - Dr. Pamela Gallup leads a team of doctors, nurses, and students in performing laparoscopic surgery at Memorial Health University Hospital.
Dr. Pamela Coman Gallup ’81 estimates that she has delivered between 6,000 and 7,000 babies during her nineteen years of medical practice.

Board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Gallup completed her residency at the Medical College of Georgia and has practiced medicine in Richmond Hill and Savannah for well over a decade. She specializes in general obstetrics and gynecology, laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery, women’s health maintenance, menopausal management, and contraceptive options and management.

“I grew up here,” she explains, when asked why she became a doctor, “and I had a horrible experience as a teenager with my physician. I learned later that it didn’t have to be that way. Women can have a good experience with their doctor. So, I came back to help save the women of Savannah!”

Her return has clearly made quite an impression. Thousands of patients love her, and her colleagues obviously respect her. Dr. Gallup currently serves as President of the Board of Directors of the Georgia OB/GYN Society, a membership of approximately 800 society members across the state of Georgia. She has also served as an Assistant Professor of OB/GYN for Mercer University since 1993. Many of her surgeries include assistance from a medical resident on staff at Memorial Hospital, as well as third and fourth year medical students who rotate into the hospital for training every six weeks.

“I like teaching and surgery the best!” she exclaims. This passion to help lead others in developing women’s medical practices that are physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually balanced is why she relinquished her private practice this past January to focus full-time on surgery and training. By doing so, she expands her influence exponentially with each student she teaches.

Pam maintains several close ties to her 1981 alma mater. She and her husband, fellow OB/GYN physician Dr. Donald Gallup, have twin children, Jonathan and Savanna, who will be 5th graders at SCPS this coming year.

Pam not only helps younger students by serving as a Brownie and Cub Scout leader for scout troops affiliated with the school, but she also invests in older students by leading an annual health-related seminar on campus for SCPS ninth grade girls.

Also, Dr. Gallup occasionally invites select senior SCPS students to shadow her at work to learn about the medical field up close and personal.

She additionally serves as a member of the Savannah Christian Preparatory School Board of Trustees and is actively involved in helping shape the educational, as well as physical, future of the school.

“I love Savannah Christian,” Dr. Gallup explains. “The school prepared me extremely well for college and for life; I wouldn’t send my children anywhere else.”
