Congratulations to our wonderful crew of Raider pirates; around 120 middle school students gathered at Relay for Life, representing our school with pride.
Thanks to a team of amazing parents, our campsite looked stunning, our numerous canopies draped with pirate paraphernalia, parrots and pearls, treasure chests overflowed with precious gems, cutlasses and flags. The opening ceremony included a moving performance by our very own middle school chorus, led by Ms. Barbara Lanier. For the opening lap, our team marched behind a breathtaking banner, along with flags from the color guard, and two spectacular pirates in full costume. Direct from the set of his latest movie, Captain Jack Sparrow joined our crew for several hours during Relay, to rally the Raiders and rouse their spirits as they walked around the track or competed in the various fund-raising contests. Through the night, our team completed over 2,200 laps!
Additional funds were raised during the silent auction, and Message in a Bottle was our on-site fund-raiser at this year’s event, with prizes for each participant, ranging from a dip in the candy jar to a family pass to the Jekyll Island Waves water park! This would not have been possible without the generous donations of our parents – thank you so much. The PTF kindly provided pizza, snacks and drinks to fuel our team through the night and into the morning.
Although the final total has not yet been confirmed, the team has certainly donated over $18,600 – a remarkable achievement! At the morning’s closing ceremony, our team collected awards for Best Site Decoration and Best Banner. All Raiders for Relay should know that we our proud of their hard work, proud of their team spirit, and proud of the way they represented our school at Relay for Life.
