Super Saturday, Spring 2007
Hundreds enjoy beautiful day of fun, food and fellowship, 4/21/07

Line

Super Saturday went very well in that we were blessed with great weather and huge crowds. We were able to sell wristbands to allow the children unlimited rides and games, and numerous additional activities (including a Middle School track meet, purse and jewelry sales, a plant sale, a used uniform sale, and more) provided for a great family day enjoyed by all.

New this year, sponsorships! Several individuals and companies donated money in an effort to underwrite the cost of the rides from Fun Time. While we get a lot for our money, this nearly $6,000 expense eats a great deal out of our profits and we were pleased to raise $3,800 towards this expense. Please extend your personal thanks to Mr. Chris Humes of Southern LNG, Mr. Bill Daniel, Mr. Mark Grainger, Mr. Phillip Carter, Mr. Steve Kang from A-1 Uniforms and Mr. and Mrs. Clay Geriner.

The Tuition Raffle went well (grossing $24,865 income - $7,373.89 expenses = $17,491.11 net income). Congratulations to Holly Geriner and family for winning the Tuition Raffle award worth $5,793.00!

Also on display during the day was the chopper from Low Country Customs. Many people enjoyed the opportunity to see, touch and hear the chopper, and a number of people bought some of the limited 500 raffle tickets available.

We rented a stage for $100 from the county which provided a wonderful place for our band to perform, along with the cast of High School Musical, Elvis (aka Dr. Donnie Brannen), the cast of Beauty and the Beast, and students from the Gretchen Greene School of Dance. These grand forms of entertainment were a great way to recruit interest in our performing arts programs, and highlight some of our talented student performers. We actually had large audiences the entire day enjoying the entertainment.

With record crowds, our food was a sell-out. We benefited from donations from the Cowart’s of Western Sizzlin’, Leann Reynolds, Paper Chemical, US Foods, Krispy Kreme, Coca-Cola, Sam’s, Lynn Potter and even construction equipment completing out “Construction theme” from JCB and Industrial Tractor.

Total income for the day, aside from the Tuition Raffle, was approximately $34,500, minus expenses of nearly $16,000, netting a profit of about $18,500. Including the Tuition Raffle profit, Super Saturday generated a total of about $36,000 to benefit SCPS students, teachers and families.
