Kevin McCarthy, a senior at Savannah Christian Preparatory School, recently signed a letter of intent to play football
for Furman University. Kevin has a long list of honors and accolades from
his tremendous career at Savannah Christian as a football and baseball player. Lettering in both sports,
Kevin excelled on the field and also soared in the classroom, taking numerous advanced courses including three
advanced placement classes in history, math and science.
His football skills have developed under the coaching of Donald Chumley, Savannah Christian’s
Head Football Coach, and the entire football coaching staff. Kevin's list of honors include
Honor Roll (4 years), football letter (4 years), baseball letter (4 years),
nomination for National Young Leaders Conference, and selection as Senior Superlative: Most Attractive.
Most notably, McCarthy has been awarded the following:
- 2006 Quarterback Club “Defensive Player of the Year”
- All Academic 2 AA All-Region
- 2006 Greater Savannah Area Football Team, 1st Team Linebacker
- SCPS 2006 Coach’s Captain Award
- State Finalist for Wendy’s High School Heisman Award
- 1st Team 2 AA All-Region Linebacker
- SCPS 2006 Defensive Player of the Year
- WTOC TV Top Teen of the Week (October 5, 2006)
Outside of school and athletics, Kevin is active in his community and church.
He enjoys boating, fishing, hunting, and snow skiing. Joining Kevin as he signed his letter
of intent were his parents - Mr. and Mrs. Patrick McCarthy of Savannah, Georgia; his siblings;
both sets of grandparents; and SCPS football Coach Donald Chumley.
