Savannah, GA — Howard Hickey, Jr. recently won the KIX 96 “Your Chance to be a Pro” Golf Tournament held at Henderson Golf Club here in Savannah, Georgia. But this winner is different than those of the past. Hickey is only 12-years old, making him the youngest golfer to ever play in the Liberty Mutual Pro-Am Tournament.
Hickey (shown right with Dixon & Dooley of KIX 96) competed against some very talented, amateur golfers ranging in age from 30 to 65. And when the day was done, young Hickey had a finishing score of 68 and won the opportunity to play with a Legend in the Liberty Mutual Pro-Am Tournament on April 18th & 19th.
Hickey is a seventh grade student at Savannah Christian. With a certified handicap of 6.7, he is a current member of the Savannah Christian golf team. Hickey’s mom bought his first club for him from a Good Will store when he was four, and he’s been playing ever since. Although this will be his first chance to play with one of golf’s legendary players, he is no stranger to the tournament. Hickey has helped at the last several Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf Tournaments as a standard barer.
“We are very pleased to be able to give a young talented golfer such as Howard the chance to learn from the best,” said Tim Iley, the Tournament’s Executive Director. “The KIX96 ‘Your Chance to be a Pro’ golf tournament has become a great community event that raises money for charity and gives local golfers the chance to play with a Champion in the Liberty Mutual Pro-Am tournament.”
“The KIX96 ‘Your Chance to be a Pro’ golf tournament is always a fun and exciting event,” said Jim Dixon, KIX96 morning show host. “It is our chance to give back to the community while helping Savannah get excited about the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf tournament. We are pleased to be given the opportunity to make this year’s tournament bigger and better.”
