Dave Corbett thoroughly enjoyed the Raider's soccer season opener on Tuesday, February 13th, 2007.
Not only did SCPS defeat the visiting Benedictine team 6-0,
but the current team and coaches honored the man who founded the soccer program at SCPS by dedicating their
newly completed field in his honor.
Corbett started the soccer team in 1982, soon after he retired from the Air Force and began teaching at SCPS.
He coached for 14 seasons, and recently retired from teaching full-time, although
he continues to invest in student's lives regularly as a part-time substitute teacher.
Constructed as part of the Chatham Parkway campus redevelopment plan,
the new soccer field is located just behind the new baseball field on the northeast corner of campus.
As the soccer teams broke in the new Dave Corbett Field, the Raider baseball team practiced nearby
in preparation for their second season on their new field. Also, a new concession stand located near the two fields
signaled its readiness by filling the air with the smell of freshly popped popcorn.
Congratulations to Mr. Corbett on his contributions to the success of our athletic and academic programs,
as well as to the soccer team on breaking in the new field with a resounding win!
