At Savannah Christian, we make the safety of our students a priority, and that includes a periodic assessment
of various school procedures. After studying the heavy traffic flow during the afternoons at the DeRenne Campus
during the past school year, we have decided a change in the traffic pattern is needed to help protect both our
students and their families as they pick up their children.
Our primary concern has been the area in front of the gym, where traffic flows in both directions,
cars enter the road randomly from the parking lot, cars parked at the gym back blindly into oncoming traffic, and
students cross the street, all simultaneously. This combination of factors presents a real hazard that we intend
to address this coming year in two ways. First, we will reroute traffic entering from DeRenne Avenue to the right
through the parking lot in front of the gym. This small “jog” will mean that students will only cross one-way traffic
to get to the parking lot. Second, the parking spaces directly in front of the gym will become a loading lane moving
in the direction of DeRenne Avenue. This will facilitate the pick-up of students while keeping traffic moving efficiently
in both directions and will eliminate the problem of cars backing blindly into traffic. To see a visual depiction of
these changes, click here to download a short Powerpoint presentation.
Change always requires an initial adjustment period, and so we request your cooperation as we implement
these new afternoon pick-up procedures in the near future. We are confident that the changes in the traffic pattern
will improve the effectiveness of our afternoon pick-ups and further ensure the safety of our students and their
families during this crowded time of the day!
