Super Saturday 2006 was quite simply a glorious day filled with more food, fun and shopping than ever! Boasting more games and rides than ever before, children of all ages took advantage of the Rock Wall, the Airborne Adventure, the Swamp Stomper, the Train, Shipwreck Island and much more! For the first time ever, pay one price wrist bands were introduced and the kids certainly took advantage of the opportunity to “Play the Day!”

First, huge thanks goes to Debbie Fairbanks and the business office staff who ensured Super Saturday came off without a hitch! These men and women take on additional roles with happy hearts to make Super Saturday happen year after year! Next, “Thank you” to the dozens of students, parents, grandparents, and friend of SCPS who volunteer in so many ways before, during and after to make every aspect of Super Saturday not only possible, but phenomenal! Thanks to every single one of you who volunteered their time and resources! This day would never happen without the support and dedication of our volunteers!

Raider Alley games like Go Fish and the “dreaded” Wet Sponge Throw were all in tip top condition thanks to the Lower school PTF thanks to Andi Carter, Nancy Lee and a host of other volunteers. Amazingly, this dedicated team of volunteers always works so diligently to ensure the success of any SCPS project! We also sincerely appreciate the efforts of the Upper School National Honor Society members, Upper school cheerleaders and the middle school Beta Club members to run the games on Super Saturday! So many students turned out to volunteer doing a wonderful job and serving as a testament to the devoted students that we have here at SCPS!

The ever popular Plant Sale led by Leanne Reynolds with help from Tammy Pinyan, Bo Kelley and Jane Eversoll completely filled the lawn beside the cafeteria dozens of plants from herbs to trees! Thanks to The Hawkins family of Twin Oaks Nursery and Sherry Davis of Davis Produce for helping make this plant sale almost double its profits this year! Thanks goes to Leanne and her team for their hard work and commitment to making the Plant Sale a very successful part of Super Saturday! Congratulations on your record-breaking sales!!!

The entertainment started off by our own lower school students who began the day with praise songs and tons of energy to get the day going! The Middle school band led by Dr. Denton also performed on the big stage. They did a smashing job and will be performing next at the Sand Gnats game! Our own “Elvis,” Upper School Bible teacher Dr. Donnie Brannen, entertained live onstage for almost three hours, collecting tips for the Annual Fund for special requests. He was amazing!

Mr. Hooper, our lower school physical education teacher used Super Saturday to follow through on his Jump Rope for Heart Challenge. He committed to crawling to school if the students raised $18,000! Well, the students raised over $26,000 and many turned out to see him crawl from Ogeechee Road to the gates of the Chatham Parkway campus! Congratulations Lower School and Mr. Hooper! The shopping was never better and this year we had Serendipity purses and accessories come from Atlanta, GA with over 600 purses! The daycare and preschool embraced our theme by having a super “tiki hut” inside the cafeteria to sell their delicious specialties and even give away many at the Cake Walk! We salute them for their very creative efforts as always! Other vendors provided sand-art crafts, spirit items and books; inside the cafeteria Chick-Fil-A the coupon wheel, and Bill Shaw demonstrated and answered questions about the his model trains as they whizzed around their tracks.

No event is complete without delicious food and boy, did we have it! Barbeque dinners were a total hit and so were the juicy Roger Wood Foods Great Grillers’ hot dogs from David Solana at Roger Wood and quality hamburgers from Western Sizzlin’ in Pooler from Alan Cowart, as well as subs, pizza and everyone’s favorite carnival snacks: cotton candy, sno-kones and lemon swizzles! Did you make it to the Krispy Kreme Dipping Station? Imagine taking a fresh doughnut and dipping it into fudge and then sprinkles! It was a huge hit, but that was no surprise! Frank Craven with food purveyor U.S. Foods was kind to help us with donated food items, as was DeWayne Thomas with Paper Chemical, who donated paper products. SCPS Business Manager and Grandparent Mary Redding and her daughter Lisa Rexroat dons yet another hat each spring when they both orchestrate the Super Saturday concessions from beginning to end. They are truly amazing. Mike Rexroat Sr. and Mike Rexroat Jr. have to be included as well for the delicious bar-b-que dinners! They were a sell out!! Special thanks go to Sandi Morgan of our cafeteria staff for supervising the work in the kitchen that day.

Our 2006 Super Saturday “Survivor” T-shirts topped new sales records once again!

Super Saturday is a collaborative event that nets great benefits not only in money raised for the Annual Fund, but also in fellowship and friendships created and strengthened among our SCPS family members over the years. Everyone has a great time. Hope to see you next year!

Tuition Raffle Winner
Roger Yancey and Beth Forkner Congratulations to this year's Tuition Raffle Winner - Sandra Flotow - grandmother of SCPS seventh grader Blake Forkner and third grader Bryce Forkner! Third grader Elizbeth Huber drew Mrs. Flotow's name on stage from among the hundreds of entries in the tuition raffle basket. The gathered crowd heard a joyous shout of excitement from Mrs. Flotow's daughter-in-law, Beth Forkner (shown above, with Mr. Yancey), who was present when Headmaster Roger Yancey called out the winner of a full year's tuition.

Finances
Our event grossed more than $56,000. After expenses exceeding $27,000 (ride rentals, food and drinks, plants, shirts, ticket printing costs, etc.), we netted nearly $29,000 to go toward our 2005-06 Annual Funds. These funds support our technology and communications, such as faculty and student computers, school intranet, internet access for everyone on campus, as well as curriculum, textbook and classroom supplies.
