The DeRenne fifth graders broke a record recently during their annual January campout by enduring the coldest night
ever spent by a group at Oatland Island - 28 degrees!
In addition to enjoying a (very cold) night hike with no flashlights in the woods, the group attended classes
on animal classification, endangered species, and group challenge, which included wall climbing, rope swinging,
physical challenges, and problem solving.
Students also had to assemble their own two-man tents, collect firewood,
build a fire and cook their own meals.
