| International ThinkQuest Winners (L-R): Robert Daniel, Rich Mazzolini, Blayne Mobley and James Tobermann |
One of our WebTech websites, "Nature's Wrath" -- developed by SCPS students Robert Daniel, Rich Mazzolini,
Blayne Mobley and James Tobermann -- has captured the third-place award in the ThinkQuest International competition.
According to the ThinkQuest Web Site, "“The Oracle Education Foundation congratulates the students and coaches
from around the world who submitted 397 websites for the October 2004 competition! Eligible websites will be
published in the ThinkQuest Library, a rich educational resource visited by millions. The 12 winning websites
were selected by an international panel of professional educators. The 12 teams will receive invitations to
ThinkQuest Live, an educational conference and awards event held in San Francisco, California.”
Interestingly, the First Place award in the “15 and Under” category went to a team from the Netherlands,
the Second Place award went to a team which had members from New Zealand and the USA, and the Third Place
award went to Savannah Christian Middle School’s team from, of course, the USA. Winning teams in the other
categories ["19 and Under" and "12 and Under"] went to teams from Singapore; Australia and USA; the USA;
Australia, Indonesia, USA and Vietnam; and Australia, Egypt, Finland, Jamaica, Philippines and the USA.
This is truly an international competition.
As part of the award, ThinkQuest will provide an all-expenses paid trip to San Francisco for each team member,
as well as WebTech Coach Linda Fidler, WebTech Assistant Coach Bonnie Furnaz, and one parent chaperone for each team
member. The award includes round-trip air fare, lodging, meals, entertainment, admission to the ThinkQuest conference,
and other costs directly involved with attending the four-day conference -- expenses estimated to cost
around $8,000 per person. The only expense to our team members will be incidental personal expenses.
