Kellen Stanley The Greater Savannah Athletic Hall of Fame has announced its 2005 class of inductees, and two of our own are among those honored.

The Lawton M. Calhoun Award, the Hall's athlete of the year honor, will go to SCPS Senior Kellen Stanley. Among this year's Citation Award winners, for service to athletics, is the late Richard "Bubba" Attwood, who began the SCPS football program in 1972. The honorees will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in ceremonies to be held on Monday, May 9, 2005.

Kellen is one of the area's most versatile athletes, playing football, soccer and basketball for four years. In football, he played cornerback, split end, kicker, running back and backup quarterback. He was the Region 3-AA Defensive Player of the Year and the Savannah Morning News Defensive Player of the Year in 2004. In basketball, he played guard and scored 126 points. In soccer, Kellen had 38 goals and 16 assists as a Junior, the most in the area. He has been named to the Savannah Morning News All-Coastal Empire team. Kellen is currently at 30 goals and 9 assists on the 2005 year, and is poised to score 100 career goals for SCPS this season.

Bubba Attwood Coach Attwood had a long and successful coaching career in Savannah. He coached at Richard Arnold, Commercial and Savannah High before moving to Jenkins High School in 1966, where he compiled a 47-13-2 record. Coach Attwood later took on the challenge of starting the football program at Savannah Christian in 1972. In his 10 years as SCPS Head Coach, his Raider teams won five state championships in the Southeastern Athletic Independent Schools conference. Coach Attwood trained and inspired hundreds of athletes, many of whom went on to play and coach after graduating from SCPS. Coach Attwood passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 26, 2003 at his home in Tryon, N.C.
