Reflections The Weeks Building on Chatham Parkway was transformed Monday evening, March 14, 2005 into a fine arts gallery as approximately 40 judges critiqued creative works of art by Middle and Upper School students submitted for the annual Reflections: A Celebration of the Arts. This year’s theme for entries was, “Let There Be Art.”

The judging panel was composed of representatives from local art and photography galleries, students and staff of Savannah College of Art and Design, members of the Landings Art Association, the Savannah Art Association, and community residents recognized for their artistic merit.

Reflections As the judges provided written, constructive feedback for each of 450 Reflections entries, they were treated to a reception hosted by Reflections committee members. The judges all concurred that our students are to be commended for the quality of artwork submitted. A complete listing of student entries and award winners, along with photos of selected works, will be available soon.

The entries were available for viewing by SCPS families and friends at the artists’ reception the following evening, with food provided by supporters of the Reflections program. The celebration began with a band and choral concert, followed by the reception and exhibition. There were musical and dramatic presentations by students as guests read literature entries, appreciated visual arts and photography entries and feasted upon hors d’oeuvres.

Reflections: A Celebration of the Arts is an annual program sponsored by the Council for Arts and Academics in an effort to challenge individual potential, encourage creativity, recognize achievement and honor God’s unique creation of talent in each student. Evidence of this creativity is apparent in the 2005 theme “Let There Be Art” submitted by seventh grade student Kaney Ballance.

Reflections would not have been possible without the commitment of Chairperson Debbie Mentzer, together with Mia Boyle, Chris Chandler Jamie Clark, Les Deloach, Amanda Dorman, Carolyn Henley, Barbara Lanier, Donna Loyd, Ruth Mathis, Steve Mentzer, Carol Mouchet, Martha Nesbit, Ellie and Herb Pennington, Leif Ragnaldsen, Mary Redding, Nancy Solana and Cheree Edenfield.
