Book Sales
Mrs. Ellie Pennington, coordinator of book sales for the Council for Arts and Academics, with some of the nearly 1,000 books distributed to students
The first semester book sale by the Council for Arts and Academics was a huge success. Sales of nearly 1,000 books netted the school more than $3,000.

The Council for Arts and Academics provides the service for the benefit of teachers, parents, and students. Each year the monies raised by the sale are used to support Arts Blitz, Reflections, and the spring musical production. Thanks to all who participated!

“The first year my daughter brought home the book sale form, I ignored it,” said SCPS parent Jackie Pickering. “A few weeks later I had to scramble all over town to try and find books she suddenly needed the next day.” This year, Jackie says, she joyfully filled out the form and wrote out a check immediately.

SCPS parent Donna Stembridge confesses that she did the same thing, but now greatly appreciates the convenient service. Plus, she says, she had no idea that profits from the book sales benefited the school. “I am grateful that my daughter has the books she needs and that we can support the school,” she says. “I feel good writing that check!”

Book Sale coordinator Ellie Pennington says some parents are hoping the council will offer the same service for summer reading.

“This past summer my child had to share the same book with seven other children,” Stembridge says. “That was a nightmare.”

Pickering says, “Can you imagine our children coming home on the last day of school with their summer reading books already in hand? Now, that would be a dream come true!”
