Hope 4 Haiti PowerPoint SlideshowIn the course of a lifetime, there are moments when we are given a chance to help others in need. On January 12, 2010, a 7.0 earthquake hit the third world country of Haiti. To make matters worse, a few days later they were hit with another earthquake that was measured at 6.1 on the Richter scale. In the gospel of John verse 6:38a, it says "Give to others, and God will give to you". Meg Norris, a member of our own Savannah Christian Middle School's eighth grade, along with other SCPS Middle Schoolers have responded to this call.

LS Hope 4 Haiti PDF Print E-mail

HaitiSavannah Christian Preparatory School students were blessed to have the opportunity to give to Hope for Haiti this week at a special chapel program for the Lower School. Held at both the DeRenne Avenue and Chatham Parkway campuses, the program was a powerful way for the students to learn about the special mission project in Haiti. Students heard from guest speakers about the devastation that has recently taken place as well as the importance of mission work. Students were fortunate enough to have an actual earthquake survivor tell about her personal experience in Haiti. One of SCPS’s very own teachers, Amy Perry, also shared her experiences of the mission work in Haiti. Mrs. Perry led a demonstration for the students illustrating the living conditions of Haitian families, showing the size of an average home and the resources most Haitian households have to survive on. Students responded with cash donations and supplies that will be donated to several Haiti relief programs. The outpour from Savannah Christian students this week has been remarkable and inspiring. Savannah Christian continues to reach out to Haiti and the families that were affected by the devastating earthquake.

Artz BlitzSavannah Christian Preparatory School students showed their creative sides this week at their annual Artz Blitz. Organized by SCPS and the Council for the Arts and Academics, this week-long workshop provided Middle School students the opportunity to explore various types of performing, creative, and strategic art. More than 30 different classes were offered, exposing students to a variety of genres that they may not have the opportunity to otherwise explore. Over 20 artists from the community, as well as some of SCPS faculty members, volunteered to share their talents with the students. Knitting, Computer Graphics, Improvisation, Japanese Art and Cookie Decorating are just a few of the classes that were offered throughout the week. A special Artz Blitz Chapel was also held to showcase some of the art work created during the week.

Special thanks to all the volunteers, parents and faculty members that made this year’s Artz Blitz a success!
