Melvin Charles, former Headmaster at SCPS, passed away late Wednesday at his home in Eatonton, Georgia after a long, courageous battle against cancer. Mr. Charles was an inspiration to all of us at Savannah Christian and he touched the lives of so many people. His entire adult life was dedicated to Christian ministry. In his career in independent school education, thousands of students, parents, educators, and members of the business community came to love and respect him. Since he retired, he chose to work on a part-time basis in a position that allowed on-going contact with his friends in Georgia private schools. In doing so, his ministry continued. His devout faith in our precious Lord and Savior and unwavering belief in the eternal value of Christian education are part of the legacy he leaves for the Savannah Christian family. He was a true Christian soldier! We will miss him.
Mr. Charles's funeral will be held Wednesday, June 30 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gatewood School gymnasium, located at 139 Phillips Drive, Eatonton, Georgia 31024. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral hour. For more information, visit the Williams Funeral Home website. |
