Overview
2008-09 Information
Savannah Christian Middle School is recognized for its academic excellence, outstanding faculty, and supportive parents. Every year its students score in the nation’s top quadrant on the Stanford Achievement Test, resulting in a large contingent being chosen to participate in the Duke University Talent Identification Program. Dedicated faculty teach a core curriculum consisting of English (grammar), language arts, science, mathematics, social studies, Spanish, and physical education. Every student also participates in an exploratory program. Courses such as Bible, study skills, art, Spanish, French, Latin, current events, band, chorus, drama, journalism and creative writing offer students a chance to explore other areas of learning.

The school’s athletic program consists of basketball, football, golf, soccer, and track for boys, as well as cheerleading, golf, pep squad, softball, soccer, volleyball, and track for girls. The program is designed for maximum participation by all of the student body.

Savannah Christian Middle School is proud of the support given to us by our parents. Through the Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF), the Athletic Booster Club, and the Music Association, our parents and teachers form a unique partnership dedicated to the academic, physical, and spiritual well being of our students.

Savannah Christian Middle School works hard to accomplish the school mission as we seek "to develop the whole person to the glory of God."

Maximum Class Sizes
The maximum class size at the Middle School is 25, excluding non-academic classes such as P.E., chorus and band, which are usually larger. The average class size ranges from 20-22 students. There are approximately 375 students in the Middle School.

Non-Academic Activities
Activities outside of the academic curriculum include weekly chapel programs, special assembly programs, field trips, pep rallies, dances, and non-uniform days, among others.

Bible study meetings are open to all students, and all students may run for student government offices. In addition, qualified students in grades seven and eight are also actively involved in the National Junior BETA Club, whose membership is based on established academic and behavioral criteria. Seventh and eighth graders may also apply to become Peer Helpers.

Religion Curriculum
Students begin each school day with prayer during homeroom, and the administration and faculty expect each student to adhere to Christian principles of behavior in all situations.

Bible classes are taught as part of the exploratory program. The textbook for these classes is the Bible itself, which provides opportunities for students to learn the history contained therein and how to apply scriptures to everyday life. With many denominations represented by students, discussions in Bible class can be lively and cover a wide range of issues. Ultimately, we hope students will explore a personal relationship with God.

Weekly chapel programs complement the religion curriculum. These programs draw on both community resources and faculty and student talents.

Technology
The 25-unit computer lab is integrated into all areas of the academic curriculum, allowing all students regular access to the computers. Additionally, the lab is open on selected days before and after school and during Silent Reading Time.

A mobile writing lab comprised of 25 word processors is available for teachers to use in their classrooms.

Most teachers have a computer and Internet access in their classroom for both instructional and professional use, and many have laptops. Student lessons often include Internet research and usage. The Middle School employs a Technology Coordinator in addition to the school’s on-staff Technology Director who provides technical support and training to both faculty and students.
