In the movie, Mr. Holland’s Opus, the principal’s gift of a compass transforms the band instructor’s teaching. After struggling with an unmotivated group of talented but raw recruits, Mr. Holland is ready to give up on being an effective teacher. The principal sees potential in both the students and teacher and does not want to lose either. She gives Mr. Holland a compass and tells him to give the students direction – effective education has direction.
At SCPS, our mission and vision provide direction. Our Mission is to develop the whole person to the
glory of God! By the whole person we mean mind, body and soul. What an awesome privilege and responsibility it is to impact the God-given triune nature – mind, body, and soul – of each student. And there can be no higher purpose for the Christian school than to do all to the glory of God.

As a compass points north, at SCPS our True North is the One who created the heavens and the earth and all therein. We intentionally educate by design, acknowledging our Designer and seeking to guide each student according to His direction for them. Such education guides students for life.
