Grandparents Day Savannah Christian Preparatory School is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational institution funded through a combination of tuition and fees, charitable gifts and earnings. We are fortunate to have so many supporters who believe in the value and quality of education that they choose to demonstrate their support through Annual Giving. In fact, Savannah Christian, like all other independent schools, depends on the generosity of parents, alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents and friends for financial support on an annual basis to continue to enrich programs and curriculum and maintain the quality of education we provide.

We hope that you will welcome this opportunity to support Savannah Christian. Our goal is a partnership in which your commitment to the school is made visible and tangible in everyday life at SCPS. We want to ensure the continuation of excellent programs for current students and generations to come.

The funds below represent critical areas to which Savannah Christian has commitments:

  • Faculty Excellence and Professional Development - Providing extraordinary teachers who challenge students to reach their full potential, and enabling those teachers to grow and share professionally throughout their careers.
  • Curriculum Development and Enhancement - Assessing needs, formulating objectives and developing instructional opportunities and evaluation.
  • Technology - Providing current hardware, software and technology curriculum so that our students are at the leading edge of the technological revolution.
  • Upper School Drama scene Performing and Visual Arts - Inspiring self-expression and confidence through music, drama and visual arts.
  • Campus - Maintaining the academic and athletic facilities to provide an optimal environment for learning and performance.
  • Student Life - Enriching the lives and learning experiences of students with co-curricular offerings including academic teams, clubs and special programs such as spiritual emphasis and drug and alcohol awareness.
  • Financial Aid - Ensuring adequate resources to attract and retain a student population that is diverse, talented and motivated.
  • E.D.E.N. - Providing funding for our 176-acre outdoor education center, E.D.E.N. (Ecological Diversity for Educational Networking). Promoting study of the natural sciences and environment, while ensuring the care and maintenance of this resource for future students.
  • Athletics - Encouraging a healthy lifestyle through active participation in programs that instill an appreciation for physical fitness, teamwork and sportsmanship.
  • Endowment - Placing gifts in a permanent fund that allows only earned income to be spent. The principal is invested. The larger the endowment, the more income is available to support SCPS' operating budget.
We also include Headmaster’s Initiatives, an unrestricted fund that provides an opportunity for us to direct your contribution to an area that needs it most. Whether you give to a specific fund or funds, or allow the school to direct your gift through Headmaster’s Priority, your gift ensures that programs continue to grow and expand to meet the needs of our students.

Winning Coach Miller We celebrate and sincerely appreciate the generosity of those who support Annual Giving at Savannah Christian Preparatory School. As you consider your gift to this year's Annual Fund, please keep in mind that all gifts - regardless of size - make a difference. Whether $25 or $10,000, your gift will be put to immediate use to benefit today's students. It is the collective effort that supports and sustains our 53-year tradition of excellence.

The Founders’ Society at Savannah Christian recognizes leadership giving to the school. The spirit of the Society represents the leadership, commitment and dedication of our founders, Rev. George and Harold Deane Akins, and is perpetuated annually through leadership gifts to the Annual Giving Fund. Members of the SCPS community who donate $1,000 or more in a given year are recognized at an annual Founders’ Society reception. Recognition is based on the total amount of gifts and pledge payments made in the fiscal year beginning July 1 and ending June 30.

Supporting Annual Giving

Savannah Christian Preparatory School is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational institution that receives revenue from tuition, fees and voluntary charitable contributions. All gifts are vital to the support of Savannah Christian's annual needs. There are many different ways in which a gift may be made. Listed below are options you may wish to consider when making a gift to Savannah Christian.

Pledges
A pledge is simply a promise to make a gift of a certain amount at a future date. We gladly accept your pledge, and can send reminders, if you request it. Annual Fund pledges must be paid in full by June 30th of the fiscal year in which the gift is made.

Cash
Cash gifts are always appreciated and are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. Cash, checks and credit card donations (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club) are accepted.

Matching Gifts
Many corporations have chosen this method of supporting education at the primary and secondary levels. Companies will often match or multiply gifts made by employees and sometimes spouses and retirees as well. Usually, a form must be requested from the company’s human resources department, filled out by the qualified applicant and submitted to the school with the gift.

Securities
If you hold securities that would incur a tax on capital gains if sold, your outright gift to Savannah Christian could mean significant savings. You obtain a tax deduction for the full market value of the gift and you may avoid a tax on the increase in value. Securities are also excellent for establishing a planned deferred gift to the School and can provide even greater benefits, when given for this purpose.

Memorial and Honor Gifts
Savannah Christian gratefully recognizes gifts made in memory or honor of a friend, family or faculty member, or to acknowledge a birthday, graduation, anniversary or other significant event. A card will be sent to the appropriate person informing them of your thoughtfulness.

Gifts In Kind
Gifts in Kind are non-monetary contributions such as professional services, furnishings, art, computers, musical instruments and sports equipment. Please contact the Development Office if you wish to make an in-kind donation to the school.

Bequests
A gift provided for in your will may be a percentage of your estate, the residual of the estate, a certain item or a specific dollar amount. Estate taxes may be reduced by a bequest to Savannah Christian Preparatory School. Please inform the Development Office if you have included the school in your will, established a gift annuity or purchased a life insurance policy with SCPS as the beneficiary so that you may be enrolled in our Legacy Circle.

Charitable Remainder Trust
You may establish a remainder trust that provides a fixed or variable income for you and your family. Part of the trust qualifies for an income tax deduction. Upon the death of the last beneficiary, the assets of the trust are distributed to Savannah Christian.

We appreciate your interest in and support of Savannah Christian. Your attorney, accountant or tax advisor can provide additional information on how these ways of giving apply to your specific situation. If you are interested in learning more about these gift opportunities for you and Savannah Christian Preparatory School, please contact us.
