We're Going to the Moon
by Lynn Lewis
Director of Institutional Advancment
I remember watching Neil Armstrong fulfill a million dreams on July 20th, 1969.
Even now, his "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" accomplishment is so extraordinary that
some still claim the nearly decade-long adventure was a hoax.
We have our own dreams at SCPS. We dream of better developing whole persons to the glory of God.
We dream of redeveloping our existing 254-acre Chatham Parkway campus for educational and cocurricular excellence,
cost-effectiveness and managed growth. We dream of fulfilling a "One Campus Plan" that includes new Athletic
and Fine Arts facilities, a new Upper School, a new Day Care, new Lower School wings, new maintenance building,
and new Administrative offices and Technical Center on the Chatham Parkway campus. We dream of completing the
campus perimeter road, expanding the cafeteria, building new athletic fields and tennis courts, expanding parking,
increasing enrollment and, in due time, closing the DeRenne Campus completely. We dream of financing capital costs
that will exceed $30 million dollars. And we dream of better offering area families the highest quality education
from the greatest teachers in the finest facilities for the best price in Savannah.
In Kennedy’s words, we’re going to the moon.
SCPS leaders are currently praying, planning and working with due diligence to achieve our lofty goals.
We are constantly examining options and plans, prioritizing actions, working with our various teams and
monitoring progress, even as we continually seek to identify persons who believe in our mission and will join us
in taking small steps to make giant leaps.
We are attempting something great, on faith and with no assurance of success. However, when we do succeed,
by the grace of God and the faithfulness of many loyal SCPS family and friends, we will stand triumphantly
like Neil Armstrong knowing beyond a shadow of doubt that “all things are possible with God.”
Please journey with us!
