1982

Dr. Mark Sellers became Senior Pastor of Southside Baptist Church in Griffin, Ga. On June 1, 2002.

1988

Cathy Grimes Pursell and her husband Scott are proud to announce the birth of their second child, Emmeline Catherine Pursell, on May 5, 2002 at Northside Hospital in Atlanta.  Emmie was welcomed home by her 2-1/2 year old big brother Connor.  Cathy is currently a stay-at-home mom and Scott is a Branch Sales Director with Sprint.  They live in Roswell.

1989

Allyson Grist Brown and husband Barry are pleased to announce the birth of their second child, Caroline Olivia Brown on November 28, 2001. She joins six-year-old big sister Ansley Morgan Brown. Allyson and Barry have been married for nine years and ive in Guyton, Ga. Allyson is an OR Scheduling Secialist with Memorial Health University Medical Center and Barry is employed with Computer Science Corporation.

1992

Edward Shaw married the former Waneta Yoder in Wichita, Kan. on June 8, 2002. Ed is a graduate of Georgia Tech and is currently employed by Raytheon Aircraft as a Structural Test Engineer II. Waneta is pursuing a degree in Physical Therapy at Wichita State University and works at a local hospital as both an emergency room technician and physical therapy technician. They reside in Wichita. Other SCPS graduates in attendance were Kimberly Shaw Morgan ’91, Deborah Johnson Smith ’92, Kevin Mullis ’92, Jeffrey Shaw ’96, and Richard Shaw ‘98.

 

1992

Michelle Jeffers Williams and husband Raymond announce the birth of their third son, Bradley Joseph on June 14, 2002. He joins three-year-old brother RJ and Justin, 1-1/2 years old.

 

 

1997

Emily Jane Boatright and Ryan Brett Moody were married June 8, 2002 at Independent Presbyterian Church. Among her bridesmaids were Emmie Sisson ‘97, Melanie Consos ‘97 and Angela Alcorn ‘95. Groomsmen were Josh Boatright ’02 and Timmy Boatright ‘06. They live in Charlottesville, Va.

Joyce Watson was married July 13, 2002 to Joshua Lane. Julie Watson ‘01 was Maid of honor and Jamie Stuber Livingston ‘97 was a bridesmaid. Joyce graduated from Lee University in May with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. She is employed in the Office of Admissions at the University. Josh is seeking employment as a Youth Pastor in the Church of God. They live in Cleveland, Tenn.

 

 

 

2000

Ann Marie Fickett spent the summer studying in Innsbruck, Austria. She also participated in a "Pre-Study" program, touring England, France and Italy. She is a Junior at the University of Georgia pursuing a degree in Business.

Courtenay Miller received Honor List at Agnes Scott College for the Spring semester. She is an English and Biology double major, and will be interning as a lab assistant at the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta for the fall and spring terms.

2001

Ashley N. Field made the Dean’s List at Truett-McConnell College with a 3.4 cumulative GPA for the year.

September 2002

1980

Sherri Morris Johnson received a Masters of Education in Speech-Language Pathology from Armstrong Atlantic State University on May 11, 2002. Sherri lives in Guyton, Ga. with her husband Randy and their three daughters, Taylor, Morgan and Reagan.

1982

Jesse E. Morris and Patricia M. Lutz were married on April 13, 2002 at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah. Jesse is employed by International Paper.

1983

Clif Cooper is a registered architect now working as a project manager with CGLS Architects in Atlanta. He previously worked in Savannah with HGBD International, where school design was his specialty. (Savannah schools in his portfolio include Georgetown and Garden City Elementary Schools as well as the "new" Savannah High School.) Clif and his wife Wendy just celebrated their tenth anniversary. She is currently a sales manager for a regional residential construction company.

Ashley Bowers Cudd and her husband Mike announce the birth of their daughter Merritt Reagan.  Three-year-old big brother Adam welcomed Merritt home.  They live in St. Simons Island, Ga. where Ashley is a stay-at-home mom.

Colette Gernay Hammesfahr and husband Kurt recently had their fourth child, Nicholas Robert, on July 1, 2002. Their other children are five-year-old triplets: Rachel, Will and Matt.

Darla Ratcliff Dixon has formed an online support group for parents of twins (and triplets!) at http://groups.msn.com/TwinsAre2Riffic Her fraternal twin daughters Alison and Sarah are eight years old.

Felicia L. Thompson recently wrote to update us on her activities since graduating from SCPS: "I attended Georgia Southern College for two years, then transferred to UGA. I graduated from UGA in June 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in Geography. I began a career in Cartography (map making) working for the Defense Mapping Agency’s (DMA) field office in Louisville, Ky., where I stayed for six years. The field office closed and I transferred to headquarters in Bethesda, Md. in August 1994. DMA became part of the Intelligence Community and was renamed National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) in 1996. The maps I have made have been used for both military actions and humanitarian missions. One of the maps I have worked on was an updated new edition of the Belgrade City map after the Chinese embassy was accidentally bombed by a US air strike. For the last two years, I have been a Contract Officer’s Technical Representative. I travel to our contractor’s sites around the country providing technical guidance and performing Quality Assurance on their work. I travel back to Savannah often and would love to get back in touch with fellow alumni."

1989

Nick and Heather Jantzen Stanley announce the birth of their first child, Maxwell Jantzen Stanley on May 31, 2002. Heather writes that she and Nick were sweethearts at SCPS and attended college together at Clemson before marrying in 1995. Heather is Vice President-Investment Officer at McCullough Investment Group, while Nick is a Civil Engineer with Thomas & Hutton in Savannah. They live on Wilmington Island.

 

 

 

Linda Boies Cowart and Christopher W. Cowart (1991) are pleased to announce the birth of their son, Chase Christopher Cowart, on July 1, 2002. This is their first child.

1990

Michael Frech and wife Lynne announce the birth of their first child, Gabrielle Fisher Elizabeth Frech, on May 20th in Atlanta. They live in Roswell, Ga. Where Lynne is employed as the manager of planned giving promotions at the national headquarters of the American Cancer Society. Michael is a therapist at an emergency shelter for neglected and abused children and adolescents, located in Jonesboro, Ga. He recently passed a nationally-standardized test in order to become a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), the highest level of licensure for social workers in the state of Georgia.

 
1991

Jennifer Griffin Reiser and her husband Marshall are pleased to announce the birth of their first child, John William "Jack" Reiser on February 27, 2002. Jennifer writes she has decided to be a stay-at-home mom.

 

 

Layla Rentz Orr and her husband Larry announce the birth of their first child, a daughter named Riley Mable Orr born on July 6, 2002.  They live in Athens, Ga.

1992

Brian Wm. Dudley, and his wife Michale are living in Jacksonville, Fla. Where Brian is an accredited Project Management Professional and is employed by Bank of America. He also serves in the United States Coast Guard Reserve.  Their daughter Grace Christine Dudley is pictured.

 

1999

Carla Long graduated Cum Laude from the University of Georgia in May 2002 with a degree in Advertising and a minor in Sociology. She is working in Washington D.C. where she is the Sales and Marketing Director for Military Aerospace Technology at Kerrigan Media International.

 

Bo Major (2000), a member of the Georgia Tech Marching Band and Danny Russell (1999) of the University of Georgia Redcoat Band, are pictured here following the 2001 Georgia-Georgia Tech football game in Atlanta. Though attending rival universities, the friendship formed during their years on the SCPS drum line endures! A recent graduate, Walker Jones (2002), has joined Bo in the Georgia Tech Marching Band this fall.

1979

Britt Bobbitt is a Major in the Air Force. He is a pilot in the 5th Special Operations Squadron at Eglin AFB, Fla. Britt writes that his squadron is a reserve unit that has been called to active duty, having just returned from participating in Operation Enduring Freedom.

Richard Gruver is Technical Project Manager for McKesson Corporation in Alpharetta with responsibility for development of the Enterprise Master Patient Indexing software. Richard graduated from Georgia Southern University in 1984 with a BBA in Management Information Systems. He and his wife Kathy live in Roswell with their three boys: Connor, 7, Christian, 6 and Luke, 5 months. They are active in their church and the boys’ activities.

Greg McGinty and wife Leslie announce the birth of Graham, their fifth child and fourth son, on July 29, 2001. Graham was welcomed home by Gary, 8; Miles, 6; Matthew, 4 and Grace, 2 years old. Greg is owner of Greg McGinty’s Savannah Framing on Waters Avenue.

1981

Jan McGinty Boyett and her husband Kelvin announce the birth of their fifth child and fourth daughter Kristin on August 14, 2001. She joins Kelly Ann, 8; Katelyn, 6; James, 4 and Kathryn, 2 years old.

1982

Robbie White and wife Alison are pleased to announce the birth of a baby girl, Alana Ann on March 29, 2002. Alana was welcomed home by big brothers Dylan, 2-1/2 and Dustin, 6 who will be in first grade at SCPS this fall.

Kristi Hellsten Ellison attended the Medical College of Georgia, graduating in 1986 with a B.S. in Nursing. She worked four years in the burn intensive care unit at the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research in San Antonio, Tex. She and her husband, Lt. Col. Richard Ellison, live in Mount Pleasant, S.C. where he is a General Surgeon in the U.S. Army currently completing a plastic surgery fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina. They have three children, Michael 11, Kevin, 10, and Travis, 8 Kristi reports that her brother, Chris Hellsten, 1984, is a project Engineer for Disney and lives in Orlando with his wife Dawn and their three girls, Lindsey, Sidney and McKenzie.

1985

Tina Bentley Johnstone and her husband Scott announce the birth of Carl Scott Johnstone on May 10, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Carl joins big brother Charles William (Will), who was Boulder, Colorado’s third "millennium baby," born on January 1, 2001. Tina is currently a stay-at-home mom and Scott works for iVesta Financial Solutions, a division of John Deere.

 

 

 

 

Angie Williams Cash was profiled in the January 21, 2002 issue of Fortune Magazine for her successful eBay sales business. 1990

Polly Powers and Charles Emmitt Keenan III were married December 1, 2001, at Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. After a reception at The Gingerbread House, the couple honeymooned in Negril, Jamaica. They live in Savannah.

1991

Daniel Joseph Mahfet and Alison Leigh Ronning, 1993 were married June 29, 2002 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Savannah. After a reception at the Savannah Golf Club, the couple left for a honeymoon in St. Lucia. They are living in Atlanta. Alison received a BA in Accounting from the University of Georgia and an MBA in Finance from Georgia State University. She is employed by Media Outsourcing Inc. Daniel graduated from the University of Georgia with a BA in Accounting and Economics. He is employed by Moore Colson.

1993

Mike Nease is working as Assistant Manager at Pride Pools and Spas while pursuing a degree in Information Technology at Armstrong Atlantic State University.

Jason Fox was married to the former Jennifer Strobel of South Carolina on May 4, 2002.

1994

William "Bill" Rogers is Category Manager for L’Oreal USA in Chicago.

Jenni Fetterman Brostek and her husband Bryan are proud to announce the birth of their second daughter, Haley Bryanna Brostek, on September 1, 2001. Her big sister Kyrstin Lea Brostek was 3 years old on May 31st. They live in Statesboro.

Cathy Elizabeth Tucker married Andrew Rice on May 18, 2002. She is Associate Veterinarian at North Atlanta Animal Medical.

1995

Tony Migchelbrink graduated from the University of Georgia in May with a BBA degree in Banking and Finance. He previously attended Georgia Southern University. Tony is living in the Atlanta area.

 

1998

Adam Hart graduated with a double major in economics and business finance from Maryville College on May 19, 2002. He was awarded Most Outstanding Senior from the Economics and Business Departments.

1999

Kris Colvin recently returned from a three-week trip to Estonia, Russia, Finland and Austria. The trip was a historical study of the Baltic Sea Region in relationship to emerging European Union issues. Kris is a senior in the Honors Program at Armstrong Atlantic State University, majoring in History with teachers certification and minoring in English literature. He plans to graduate in December 2003. Kris is pictured here at the Baltic Sea on the northern side of Estonia.

 

 

 

2001

Jennifer Goldberg was named to the Deans List for the 2002 Spring Semester at Georgia Southern University. She was also accepted as a member of Gamma Beta Phi, a national honor and service organization for college students with a scholastic ranking in the top 15% of their class.

Susan Fox has named to the deans list for the spring semester at Presbyterian College.

March 2002

1977

Johnny Rowland writes that he has been married for 13 years and has "two boys, three golden retrievers and any other animals my kids adopt."  Johnny and his family live on a small farm about 35 miles northeast of Nashville, Tenn.  After nine years with NCR, Johnny now works as a product engineer in the design development group for CEI, an automotive industry products manufacturer. "It’s a great job because I get to research all the new technologies and decide if they are applicable to the products we manufacture."  He studies day trading in his spare time and is looking forward seeing everyone at the Class of 1977 reunion this year.

1978

Lisa Smith Woodard is a currently a Statistician with the South Carolina Department of Corrections. She holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in Criminal Justice from Armstrong and the University of South Carolina, respectively. Lisa and her husband Cliff live in Columbia with their two boys Ethan, age 10 and Jared, age 5. Lisa is active in Cub Scouts and has been a Cubmaster for the past 3 years.

 

1986

Emily Zittrouer Chaffin and her husband Chad are proud to announce the birth of their first child, Kathryn Matti Chaffin, "Katie," on January 10, 2002. Emily and Chad have been married for seven years and live in Guyton. Emily is a teacher of gifted students at Butler Elementary School in Savannah and Chad is in sales for R.E. Michel Company, Inc.

 

1987

Tricia Barr Ainsworth and husband Keith are proud to announce the birth of their first child, Olivia Grace Ainsworth, on December 27, 2001 in Savannah. Tricia is with Rhodes furniture and Kevin works as a Sales Manager with Cellular One.

 

Mark Herrin married the former Kari Tunkel on December 7, 2001 in Key West, Fla. They live in Savannah where Mark is President and Co-Owner of Smith and Herrin Construction and Kari is director of special events and conferencing for Savannah College of Art and Design.

 

1989

Rick Tindol married the former Kris Walter in Savannah on January 26, 2002. Rick is a graduate of the University of Georgia and has been employed by SCPS as Technology Director since 1998. A graduate of the University of Georgia and Emory University, Kris is an anesthetist with Anesthesiology Consultants in Savannah.

 

1990

Lloyd Rowland graduated from Heart of Georgia Technical Institute where he also served as a flight instructor. He is now a pilot for the Georgia Department of Transportation and lives in Temple, Ga.

 

1992

Anne Allen Westbrook married Joseph Brent Garliss on September 8, 2001 in Savannah. They live in Atlanta.

 

1993

Jeremy Chandler is a Captain in the U.S. Army, currently undergoing special forces training at Ft. Bragg, N.C. He is an Airborne Ranger and has served in Kosovo. He graduated from North Georgia College in 1997.

 

1995

Alicia Chandler received a degree in Psychology from Wake Forest University. She is currently pursuing a graduate degree in English from the University of Georgia.

1996

Mandy Daniel Smith and her husband Phil Smith announce the birth of their first child, Milo Jasper Smith, born on March 20, 2001.  They were married on March 19, 2000 and live in Atlanta.

 

1997

Kiley Purvis graduated from Valdosta State University with a B.S. degree in Business Education. She lives in Savannah.

 

1999

As Miss Coastal Empire Fair 2001, Meredith Boggs competed in the Miss Georgia Agricultural Fairs pageant, winning first place in the swimsuit competition.

 

2000

Beth Brinson was crowned Miss Georgia National Fair 2001, winning a $1,000 scholarship and qualifying her to compete in the Miss Georgia Agricultural Fairs pageant, where she took the top talent prize. Beth attends The University Of North Carolina at Charlotte, and dances with a tap group called Rhythm. In February, Beth and her partner were scheduled to perform at the White House for an AIDS benefit.

 

2001

Susan Fox was named to the fall semester Deans List at Presbyterian College with a 3.8 GPA. Susan is majoring in Spanish.
